A Future of New Possibilities
I believe in the power of purpose so deeply that six years ago, I gave up my career in the social justice sector, to reconnect to my own purpose. When I created the Wild Dreams group coaching program, my driving force was to reimagine the way we think about purpose as Women of Color and immigrant women.
Linear ways of looking at purpose leave no space for the wisdom of knowing that we come into this world with. They focus on a disembodied approach to success and leadership, in the process invalidating the intuitive ways of thinking that we come equipped with. We are expected to conform to gendered, racialized and colonized views of purpose that leave no space for indigenous ways of being and knowing.
A future of new possibilities
Wild Dreams is about imagining a collective future of new possibilities.
How do we get there?
By getting out of our minds and into our bodies. This work requires an embodied approach, channeling the energy that will break down the colonized views that resides in each of us.
Identifying purpose is not solely about thoughts, degrees & credentials. It is definitely not tied to a "save the world" mentality — colonization and racism is too big a burden for anyone to carry on their backs alone. Purpose is a series of gifts which you were born with, gifts that you cultivate and offer to your community through a pathway of your choice. These gifts can be envisioned as movements that are meant to address particular concepts.
How often have you told yourself something like, “If I can just be successful in this area, then I can share my gifts”?
This is the wrong way of looking at purpose, but it’s the way we’ve all internalized. Just meet these requirements, and fit into this box, and THEN you can exist as your whole self in the professional space. In reality, we can keep chasing these white norms of leadership and purpose our entire careers, without ever having the chance to be whole in those spaces.
Before stepping fully into the Wild Dreams program, I was still focused on the things that made others happy. It feels good to give. I enjoyed giving as a child. It became more complicated when I got older. Everyone wanted something from me and my boundaries were almost nonexistent.
I gave and gave. People often attributed my success to how giving and generous I was. My life became work and service to others. I was busy climbing that ladder of “success” like my life depended on it. And, sadly, it kind of did.
As I became clearer about my politics of sustainability for women, my tolerance for endless giving changed. I also felt a strong spiritual and energetic calling to change the focal points in my life.
I listened and still worked 80 hours a week. I figured I just needed to get up earlier and work harder and pray at 4:30am. Totally unsustainable.
My body broke not once but 3 times. Each was worse than the last because I became more aware of what I was doing to myself. This was normalized in my field of social justice, in immigrant families and career spaces, and in US culture. It was normal and even praised to give yourself over. Work now, rest tomorrow.
But tomorrow never comes.
You have been caught between a system held up by colonized views and your vision for freedom. You think that your freedom depends on the systems changing. But it doesn't. The system will change because you do.
Women – you are born into this world already holding the higher purpose you’re meant to embody. Standing in that purpose, actively practicing your gifts, this is the antidote. Instead of operating within the systems at play, it’s our duty to change the system by changing the way we relate to it. Moving outside linear perspectives of purpose is what will bring about the expansion of this paradigm.
What can you do next?
Don't go it alone. When you join the Wild Dreams circle, you’re instantly surrounded by a community of women of culture who are walking the journey with you and will support your ongoing life and career changes.
The Wild Dreams program opens with identifying the gifts that make up our purpose. Three things happen when you are attuned to these gifts:
1. We can reimagine new possibilities in the world around us. So often the voices of Women of Color are seen as too radical or unrealistic. The colonized view of leadership does not make space for reimagining the core tenets it's built on. Alignment with our gifts helps us to bring these awarenesses into the room, and to offer a perspective that can drastically shift the way we look at these frameworks.
2. We become aligned with the planet’s energy and ancestral wisdom. Relating to the planet and to our collective existence here opens up our ability to use the tools that are part of our existing toolbox. Our purpose gives us the power to care for the earth, for those around us and for ourselves. Opening up to the energy and deeply held knowledge within the ground we walk on allows us to also unlock it within ourselves.
3. We are able to make powerful invitations to others to join us on their own journey. As the saying goes, you are not for everyone. The vibration of a person in tune with their purpose attracts the right people. Those who are connected to their vibration, or ready to embrace their personal power will become magnetized to you. You’ll be able to invite others to become a part of this collective movement with a feeling of ease.
When you step into purpose without impositions, it opens a new world of potential within you. This is how we change the world, not by working ourselves to the bone or sacrificing parts of our truth. It comes from a consciousness of our value as we are, and the awareness of the connection we all share.
So my question to you is, what are your gifts? Not the skills or certificates you've gained, but your true intrinsic gifts. How can do you show up for those gifts and how are you sharing them? These are the important questions to ponder when thinking about purpose.
